In Yamanashi Prefecture, many people, regardless of age or gender, enjoy sports, through student and lifelong sporting activities. In addition to this high level of interest in sports, many people support the prefecture’s sports events as volunteers. With the “Yamanashi Hospitality Declaration”, the prefecture has a strong culture of offering hospitality toward its many visitors from overseas. Your athletes will enjoy the support of all of Yamanashi Prefecture’s citizens, so please come to Yamanashi!

Yamanashi Prefectural citizens hope to interact with athletes from overseas.

The people of Yamanashi Prefecture, who proactively participate in a range of sports, have a strong interest in exchange with others through sports. Exchanges with athletes taking part in training camps and tournaments have resulted in the deepening of friendship and mutual understanding. Interacting with top athletes from around the world is a great educational opportunity for the children of Yamanashi, and it gives them ambitions for the future.

●Sports classes run by Olympic athletes
Athletes who are on the Japanese national team, and who are from Yamanashi, hold sports classes around the prefecture. They teach local elementary and junior high school students directly. It is a precious opportunity for the children to deepen interaction with athletes who are at the top of their game, such as those who competed in Rio 2016, and who are aiming to participate in the Olympic games Tokyo.

●Yamanashi Gakuin University & Fuefuki City Sports Project
Yamanashi Gakuin University is known throughout Japan as a university with flourishing sporting activities. It collaborates with Fuefuki City in planning a range of sports programs. Regional exchange is achieved through the local residents, including children, having direct contact with famous athletes and coaches.

●Yamanakako Road Race
This is a marathon open to the public held at Lake Yamanakako at the foot of Mt. Fuji.  Set against the picturesque scenery of Mt. Fuji in the early summer, this event is attended by 12,000 runners each year, and has a system in place in which the entire local village offers its support to the runners. As part of this system, about 1,500 people, 30% of the village residents, help out as volunteer staff.
