Various countries and teams have chosen to hold their training camps in Yamanashi Prefecture. Here we introduce our experience so far.

Japan national short distance athletics team Training camps prior to the Olympic Games and World Championships
The Japan national athletics team has held its training camp here annually since the facility opened. Located at an altitude of 1,000m, it provides the perfect environment for high-altitude training. Many athletes have achieved good results, and recently, the relay team won a medal. The athletes also teach at the summer vacation athletics class organized by Yamanashi Sports Association. This has a great influence on the local elementary and junior high school children, and gives them dreams for the future. |

The Japan national team trained here prior to the World Championships in Athletics and the Olympic Games. It was used as a supplementary field of the Fuji Hokuroku Park Athletic Field.
Lake Shojiko hosted the Kanto High School Canoe Championships in June, the Japan Canoe boys and girls Championships in July, the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Cup Japan Canoe Sprint Championships in August, the Kanto High School Canoe Selection Tournament in September, and the Kanto prefectures exchange camp in October. It also hosted training camps before the events. Such activities are firmly rooted at the facility, having been held here continuously for fifteen years.
This facility was used as a soccer football camp location during the FIFA World Cup. Many countries came to inspect the facility due to the good condition of the pitch, the stunning location, with Japan’s highest mountain Mt. Fuji in the background, and its proximity to the match venue. Of these, it was decided that it would host the Cameroon team. The facility was greatly invigorated, with children who play soccer football and men and women of all ages gathering to watch the professional players.
The Cameroon national football team held a training camp at Kunugidaira Sports Park Football Ground prior to the 2002 FIFA World Cup, hosted by Japan and South Korea. They chose this ground because of its proximity to Tokyo, and because the players could train at a high altitude. The team held soccer classes for the local youths which raised interest in sports and soccer, and led to the establishment of elementary, junior and senior high school soccer club teams in the town. They also had a large, invigorating effect on the volleyball teams consisting of housewives and junior and senior high school students.
The Japan Equestrian Federation Eventing summer training camp. Coaches from overseas were invited to this camp which was held every year until 2016 at the Yamanashi Horse Racing Track prior to the All Japan championships and the All Japan Junior Eventing Competition. These camps produced many medalists in Asian tournaments, and riders who competed in equestrian events at the Olympic Games.
training camp for candidates for the Busan Asian Games was held, which strengthened both riders and horses. The results of the camp were a gold medal in the team event and a bronze medal in the individual event.
All Japan class tournaments held
Athletes who participated in the Grand Slam held in Japan came early and trained with students from Yamanashi Gakuin University.
The venue was selected as a location for a training camp prior to the All Japan championships. A typhoon had brought bad weather which lasted until the previous week, making training at facilities in neighboring prefectures difficult. Lake Kawaguchiko was chosen because it was in good condition. Students who come from the area participated in the week-long camp, which was a good training experience for the athletes.
In preparation for tournaments for the top 100 ranked players in the world
The Japan men’s national volleyball team held a training camp in preparation for the 2002 world championship, which was hosted by Argentina. They chose this location because of its proximity to Tokyo, and because the players could train at a high altitude. The training was completely open to the public, and people of all ages, including junior and senior high school students, housewives’ volleyball players, and families, gathered. Also, during the camp, the players held volleyball classes, which raised volleyball skill levels and interest in sports.
The Hokuto City Civic Gymnasium (Hakushu) has a spacious arena with a height of 20m. It was used as a training camp location before the V. League. During the time the gymnasium was used as a training camp location, the team dominated the league, winning the title five consecutive times. This shows that the gymnasium’s training environment is suitable for Japan’s top athletes.
The Japan national team held its summer training camps here before the world championships. Athletes including Hiromi Miyake, who won the bronze medal at the Olympic Games Rio de Janeiro, participated as members of the team. The team stayed at hotels and other establishments in Fujiyoshida City and Fujikawaguchiko Town.
