Agreement Reached between Thai Amateur Weightlifting Association (TAWA) and Fuefuki City

On February 7th, 2017, an agreement was reached between TAWA and Fuefuki City at the offices of the Sports Authority of Thailand. The agreement states TAWA’s intent to base their Tokyo Olympics pre-games training camp in Fuefuki City.

TAWA’s Visit to Yamanashi Prefecture

In November 2016, TAWA visited Yamanashi Prefecture and inspected its training facilities and sleeping accommodations. The visiting members of this exceptional committee included TAWA’s honorary president, Maj. Gen. Intarat Yodbangtoey, its president, Ms. Boossaba Yodbangtoey, as well as four national heroes and medalists of the Rio Olympics.

The committee was welcomed by the governor of Yamanashi Prefecture and the mayor of Fuefuki City, to whom the group paid courtesy visits upon arriving. Governor Goto greeted them at the Yamanashi Prefectural Government offices with both hands together in traditional Thai fashion. As a memento of the visit, the governor presented them with a framed photograph of one of the prefecture’s most iconic locations famous worldwide: the Chureito Pagoda in Asakurayama Sengen Park with Mt. Fuji in the back ground. He also resented them with one of the prefecture’s traditional crafts: inden, or deer leather that has been painted with artistic patterns drawn with a vivid lacquer.

The committee visits Hikawa High School and its weightlifting training facilities. Warmly greeted by the high schoolers, the group waves in return. They avidly inspect the weightlifting facilities.
