Signing of the “University Exchange Agreement” between Yamanashi Gakuin University and Claude Bernard Lyon 1 University, France

On the 14th February 2017, a ceremony was held at theYamanashi Gakuin University Publicity Studio, to mark the signing of anagreement between Yamanashi Gakuin University and Claude Bernard Lyon 1 University in France. This agreement will last for four years, and covers future plans for sports related interactions and research, such as team leader exchanges and student study abroad programs.

This agreement came out of the Prefecture’s plans to invite the French Rugby Sevens team to Fujiyoshida City for Pre-Games Training Camps, inpreparation for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

Mr. Olivier Nier, professor of Lyon 1 University, who became known to YGU through Prefectural Office links, is a member of the French Rugby Sevens Association, and thus aided with negotiations.

Mr. Olivier, also the chairman of the French National Rugby Coach Training Association, conducted a session with the YGU Rugby Club from early the following day on the 15th, guiding them with enthusiasm in attack practice during the morning and defense practice in the afternoon. This training, the first of many future exchanges, was carried out successfully. 

Both universities are hoping that this friendly relationship can continue on long into the future.
